Steph has lived and breathed music from a very early age as her mother was also a music teacher! As a child there were always lots of instruments around the house and lots of people playing them, so it’s no surprise she ended up a professional musician and music teacher. Achieving her ABRSM grade 8 in piano at the tender age of 14 (and later on the same in Violin) she has now clocked up over 12 years experience in teaching and is committed to helping new students to nurture their passion for their instruments in a calm, fun way.
Steph is a versatile musician and is a part of several folk bands (the Dreadnoughts, the Twiddlers), various classical string quartets and orchestras, and has been a part of many theatre shows with Top Box Studios and Dynamik Theatre, both as a rehearsal pianist and playing the violin or keyboard in the orchestra pit. She also enjoys the occasional busking session out on the town, or folk night in the pub!
“The two most important things to remember when teaching are to make the student feel they are having fun, and making progress. It’s much easier to practice when it feels like pleasure, not work (although I do still insist on scales. Bit like eating your vegetables, nobody wants to but it’s very good for you)!”
